Medical Payments Coverages, A Series, Part 2
The first thing to learn about medical payments coverage is what it is exactly.
Medical payments coverage is an add on to your automobile policy that can be purchased for a few extra dollars a month that provides you with coverage for medical bills incurred in an accident regardless of if you are deemed to have caused the accident or not.
While an insurance company is dealing with determining who they think is at fault for the accident itself, you as the injured party, could be dealing with medical issues, which as we all know, cost money. This is why the medical payment coverage system in insurance coverage was designed.
Medical payments coverage is medical coverage that kicks in, if you have it in your automobile policy, regardless of fault, and pays for medical costs to whatever amount you have the coverage for. What this means is that even if you are found to have caused the auto accident, you will at least have some coverage for your injuries if you have this medical payments coverage in your auto policy. That is why it will be called at times, “no-fault” coverage – it pays regardless of fault if it is present in the policy.
As stated in the last entry of this series, there is a lot to explore and unpack with medical payments coverage, but it is important to understand the concept behind the coverage and what the term itself means before getting deep into the coverage itself and how it works, so I hope this helps at least a little bit with the beginning of understanding.
