Medical Payments Coverage, A Series, Part 1

What is Medical Payments Coverage in an Automobile Policy?

Medical payments coverage is an add on to your automobile policy that can be purchased for a few extra dollars a month that provides you with coverage for medical bills incurred in an accident regardless of if you are deemed to have caused the accident or not.

This series will take a deep dive into how medical payments coverage is governed in Colorado, how the coverage is sold and rejected, who can be paid out of the coverage, instances when the coverage will not be provided to you, even if you have purchased it, comparisons to this coverage to similar coverages in other states, and comparisons to this coverage in non-vehicle insurance policies.

This may feel like an overwhelming amount of information, but the goal of this series is to break down a very convoluted piece of the insurance world that is run by the laws of the state of Colorado through statutes, case law, and your very own insurance policy (in ways you may not even know).

Please follow along with this blog to the end and I hope that you are able to learn some along the way. If you ever have questions, please always feel free to reach out to my office and I will try my best to answer what I can or point you in the best direction for your answers.
